Children: Good for kids Bulkley Emergency Support Services (BESS) is a community volunteer organization that provides services to residents who have been affected by an emergency or disaster in the Town of Smithers, Village of Telkwa and Regional District of Bulkley Nechako.
BESS provides care for those affected by a wide range of emergencies and disasters, from single-family home fires to larger scale disasters, such as wildfire and flooding events.
BESS provides emergency support for up to 72 hours after an event such as lodging, food, clothing, and essential items. Larger-scale events may require Group Lodging and Reception Centers in order to provide more extensive, longer-term services like: childcare, family reunification, transportation, communication, health care and many more services through stake holders and partners. BESS also has a mobile contingency where volunteers can deploy to other areas to support other teams though our Mobile Response Unit/ Command Unit and Mobile Reception Centre.
